Age is just a number

Emalyn’s running journey started early. She completed her first 10K at just 10 years old at the Negative Split Half Marathon. But for her, running has always meant more than just racing. She runs in honor of her little brother, who passed away from SIDS. Her very first race fell on the anniversary of his passing, turning each mile into something deeply meaningful. Every step she takes is for him and for the babies who will never have the chance to walk, let alone run. At just 11 years old, Emalyn completed her first half marathon on the Hiawatha Trail after winning the 10K there the year before. That race became even more special with her family by her side. Her grandparents traveled from Alaska to participate, and her younger sister completed her first 10K at only 9 years old. Growing up in a small town like St. Maries, finding consistent training opportunities isn’t always easy. That’s why Emalyn is so grateful for the chance to compete beyond her local season. She runs with her high school team while also taking on larger races. It’s given her the perfect balance of staying rooted in her community while chasing bigger goals. For Emalyn, running isn’t just a sport. It’s purpose, family, and heart.
